I couldn’t agree more with Rafael. A. Fantauzzi, president and CEO of the National Puerto Rican Coalition, who says a recent report from the Pew Reseach Center is encouraging, that the “digital divide” is closing, and Hispanics are using wireless devices to access the Internet at a greater rate than most Americans.  As he points out, “This study illuminates the importance of wireless technology as an on ramp for broadband connectivity. Wireless devices offer a convenient and affordable way to access the Internet.  As the Internet continues to play an important role in nearly every aspect of 21st century American life, mobile devices equipped with Internet functions open an entirely new window of opportunity for those who lack a home computer or broadband in their homes.

While we’ve got to applaud this step in the right direction, there is still a large gap, and the FCC should focus on how to maintain the momentum described in the Pew research — not find ways to add more burdens and regulations.   Yet, the FCC seems almost obsessed with its so-called “third-way” proposal that would, to borrow words from Rafael again, “inadvertently jeopardize the affordability and availability of broadband services.” I join the many others in the Hispanic community who would appeal to the FCC to re-examine its priorities, and to do it quickly.  Here’s a link to Rafael’s full commentary: http://www.nprcinc.org/node/70
